Crosstown Rebels 100
Fazit:

Tracklist:
1. CRM100 A1. Tiga - The Picture 2. CRM100 B1. Tiga - Pleasure From The Bass (Subb-an Remix) 3. CRM100 D. Tiga - Pleasure From The Bass (Original Mix)
For the momentous Crosstown Rebels #100, one
of electronic music’s great innovators makes his long-awaited comeback
as Tiga. The Montreal avant-gardist’s first original work in four years
‘The Picture’ is big, bad and heavy in every sense. Factor in an
outstanding remix of ‘Pleasure From The Bass’ from wonder boy Subb-an
and you have a very special landmark release indeed.
Tiga has always had a knack of injecting freaky character into the
tantalizing late night music he crafts and with ‘The Picture’, Tiga
literally bulldozes all expectation giving Crosstown Rebels an
unforgettable flash of rave imbued dark pop-electro tech. Assuming the
transcendent verse of Prince, Tiga’s echoing vocals glower like
iridescent petrol as the trippy, molten sound wall of bleeps and beats
propel this inexorable dancefloor slayer.
Killing it on every level right now, Rebels favourite and One Records
boss Subb-an brings Tiga’s dance classic ‘Pleasure From The Bass’ up to
date with a wonky logic and deeper swing on the drums adding
spaciousness to the groove. With Tiga’s penetrating vocal in tact along
with fresh tweaks of acid, Subb-an’s badboy bassline bumps towards a
medley of spooky keys evoking a ghostbusters rave scene and although
undeniably groovy, Subb-an’s rework still fizzes with electric shocks
and twists.
Tiga has wowed the electronic universe with his ghostly fluorescent
sonic beams since ‘Sunglasses At Night’ first dropped on City Rockers in
2001, when a longstanding friendship with then label boss Damian
Lazarus was born. Now with Lazarus about to enter the tenth year of his
pioneering Crosstown Rebels imprint, it is fitting that the two should
entwine in this destiny for the milestone #100.
Besides a head spinning career as DJ and producer, Tiga has been
running Turbo Recordings since 1998 - home to some of the most cutting
edge, genre-crossing brilliance out there with releases from Chromeo,
Azari & III and Tiga himself - as well as lately delivering a
smoking trail of high-profile remixes. It would take all night to even
glaze over the story of Tiga’s career but it’s safe to say it’s been one
full of colourful decadence and a disregard for the norm. Both Tiga and
Crosstown are true trendsetters and together they are a potent
combination.

Release info:
Don’t be
mistaken by our newest family member’s modest ways,
his well-mannered aloofness, his unagitated presence.
Max Buschfeld’s inner calm not only
makes him glow from the outside, it all the more makes him
bring out some very individual and imaginative sounds and
melodies. Being capable of putting together a diversity that
range from his passion for piano cascades and modulated
synthies to his musical fundament of Nu Chicago House. So,
for Mother Recordings 004 Max came up with
two very elegant and subtle tracks that surprise with
affecionate details and make him stand out from the
crowd.
A1. Times New
Romance (Original)
It’s the long
build-up with its sexiness coming from the sweet breathing
and whispering and moaning of some enigmatic female vocal
that makes Time New Romance a thrilling
tune full of tension from the very first sounds of a playful
and funky bass line. Adding a dreamy quirky melody of acid
reminiscent synthie chords Max Buschfeld
shows off the broad spectrum of his creativity, his
visionary skills of producing finest Future House.
A2. Times New
Romance (Rhadow & NTFO Remix)
Haven’t heard
the sounds of Bukarest yet? Well, that’s exactly where
we went looking for new underground talents. Rhadow
& NTFO have been busy building up the house
scene in Romania for the last couple of years and have come
up with some very functional and therefore quite effective
and sophisticated club- and dance music. They added some
crispy claps to the track and made it a whole lot edgier
with sharp piano hits and a groove that moves a couple of
gears up.
B1. Home
(Original Mix)
The title of the
flipside of Mother004 might just convey one
of the central elements our label is about: The feeling of
being exactly where you want to be, the warmth and the
comfort of the here and now. Why go home when home is
exactly where you are? When the perfect moment is here, on
the dancefloor, in a track, in a beautiful pair of
mysterious eyes on the other end of the room? This is a
track for these magnetic moments of the night. “I just
want to go home”, sings a laconic voice in a cool 80s
sound esthetic while the hypnotic beat tells you: Why would
you? How could you? Stay hungry for more. Stay!
B2. Home (El_Txef_A & Fiakun Team
Remix)
It must have to do
with being Basque: Nothing about this tune is what you
expect it to be. El_Txef_A & Fiakun
Team, after John Talabot and Pional the next hot
export from Spain, are a pair of musical libertines,
delivering a free spirited remix that is one of a kind, be
it for the classical piano and flute elements that have a
spheric loungy feel to it, be it for the way they pitch the
vocal and split it into pieces that they carefully
reassemble to create a whole new little world around it.
This is music for aficionados, romantic in a non-cheesy
way.
Die EP enthält 4 Original Tracks und heißt Some Other Guy.
Off Recordings 034

2012 sees the release of Bara Bröst’s second album on BBE Records
Benjamin Quint and Markus Schwarzbauer aka Bara Bröst are looking
forward to the summer: warm and melodious sounds dominate the tracks on
the new album. “Kokolores” is a German word for ‘nonsense”, but pure
nonsense is not the (only) theme of this album… the word derives from
the sound of a rooster’s crow and it was used to describe the sometimes
brilliant sometimes tedious chatter of the cocaine-driven
hipsters/bohemians of Berlin in the Golden Twenties…
Working with musicians Jonathan Moore (piano), Michael Neuber (drums)
and Philipp Stevens (guitar) was, for Bara Bröst a very fruitful
creative exchange.
As it was for the songstress Domonique and the singers Conan
Kowalski and Capey Cash all the featured artists had the chance to
enrich the tracks with their ideas. “In-your-face” is easy – but the
Bara Bröst guys are looking for more subtle ways to reach the audience.
That’s the artistic credo the former class mates now ‘House’ mates stick
to. This is also true for their critically acclaimed live shows, which
grew the audience for their debut album “Elephancycle” and will do for
their second album “Kokolores”.
The result of this hard work is hand crafted, meticulously arranged,
percussive Deep- and Funkyhouse. The stylistic spectrum ranges from
complex Pop tracks to melody driven Disco hits. While listening to Bara
Bröst’s new album you can already sense the coming of summer: dancing
the night away… in other words: the lightness of being!

Fazit:

The “Dawn” EP is the debut release of Markey alias “Sander Markey,” who recently
settled down in Berlin after living and working as a Dj and Producer in Gent, Belgium.
Markey has delivered four intriguing tracks covering the spectrum of dark to funky grooves
and soulful voices. With support from Mz. Sunday Luv, who gave her voice for the sexy,
intermezzo on “Dawn” the EP starts off with alluring rhythmic beats and Mz. Sunday Luvʼs
hot, broken vocals, reminiscent of Kate Simko. Repetitive grooves and the marching 303
bass drum are topped with a dark, demanding voice delivering a mystic message. What
first sounds like a charming dirty string ensemble, is then paired with an odd delayed
snare, morphing to signal the beginning of the stalkerʼs rant.
“Spring Break” brings on a warmer, funkier groove. Speeding up the tempo a bit, with
stellar high hats, warm synths, jungle bongos, nice drops and funky male vocals give this
track wide spread appeal and dance-ability.
“In the Shade” made in cooperation with Yannick Robyns, delivers more warm and funky
grooves. The Bobby McFerrin vocal sample is playful and combined with small bits of
exotic spice which brings a more mellow and soulful vibe to the track.
“Facing the Clouds” closes the EP with a melodic and ethereal journey. Quirky and
snappy uptempo beats layered over slower, sliding atmospheric beats, combine to lay the
perfect foundation for the warm, chilled, eccentric vocals.
Off Recordings 033
Bump & Flex und You Don't Know
Going Down schwingt ebenso stark die Bassline.
Fazit:

Fazit:

Info:
Deep house in all his variety, from being airy, fluffy, substantial,
pushy or cracking to the elegance of indie pop, all in here: bodacious
and groovy remixes by Daniel Stefanik, Osunlade, Jacob Korn or Klinke
Auf Cinch.
Marbert Rocel, the East German indie pop’n’jazz sensation and live
band just brought their third album “Small Hours” to life, capturing a
deep sense for beats, smoking, songs, indie pop trips including
leftfield house- and jazzy affairs. As Groove magazine wrote “...an
album finally progressed their own stunning charm into a higher sphere
of danceable indie pop”. Well, it’s true, Marbert Rocel music is light
and sunny, but they working hard with patience, belief, a lot of
cigarettes, and dozens of live gigs around Europe, to spread their charm
with passion and a wicked glints in their eyes. There is this lack of
pretention in their music which everybody loves, actually people from
the techno, soul, jazz or pop worlds even all seems to be convinced.
Now we are embarking with the first remix package of their third album:
Starting with Daniel Stefanik propeller tech tune, a monster of the
month. Over the last years, he produced a lot of different records on
diverse labels: Kann, Freude am Tanzen, Cocoon Records or Cargo Edition.
And don ́t forget his numerous remixes with the completely special
„Stefanik-Style". 2009 he united with Sven Tasnadi and Stefan Schultz
(Juno6) to provide their home base Leipzig, and to create the Label: Oh
Yeah Records. Daniel is currently working on his second album, which
will be released on Cocoon Records in 2012.
Secondly, Jacob Korn from Leipzig recently approved his seductive
feel of deep house again and again. So if you take look to his career
and followe his releases and remixes, you can’t deny that he is one of
the men of 2012.
Osunlade is one of those established entrepreneurs and deep house
dons who won`t need any further introduction. His “Envision” track went
straight into nearly all “best of “-top ten of 2011. He was really
digging Marbert Rocel’s productions, so he came up with compliments,
roses and this awesome groovy remix. Available as an instrumental
version on vinyl while the vocal version is available as download.
Last but not least Klinke Auf Cinch, a collective consisting of
Clemens Kynast and Lutz Hartmann from Jena, Germany, who are living
close to that place, where Marbert Rocel are smoking. They deliver an
aromatic airy deephouse tune. Together they produce a mixture between
slower house, faster jazz, reduced pop and harmonised minimal. On their
live performances, they always surprise with changing vocalists, gifted
soloists and different musicians.

This EP is the debut of French artist Remcord with Atmosphere Records. Since there's a strong believe in this young producer's music and live act the EP will also be out on vinyl. Remcord developed his own sound with catchy rhythms, cheerful synths and well placed vocals. Remixes are provided by well known Atmosphere artists Stereo Express and René Bourgeois. Stereo Express delivers a live interpretation with extended sax. The tremendous René Bourgeois remix winks to Al Pacino's Scarface.

Fazit:

So macht Deep House Spaß. Fazit:

H.O.S.H, aka Holger Behn, is something of a
legend in the German house scene. An exceptional DJ, prolific producer
and crucial part of Hamburg’s hugely influential Diynamic crew, H.O.S.H.
has helped shape the contemporary house landscape like few others.
'Ego', his latest 12“ release on Poker Flat Recordings, demonstrates his
absolute mastery of the dancefloor, a result of his vast experience
behind the decks.
'Don Arp' kicks off this 12" – a mid-tempo banger that works as
perfectly early-on in a set as it would at a peak-time strobe-n-smoke
moment. The vibe is pure heads down funk - from the irresistible groove
to the ecstatic cut up vocals – but it’s the filthy, Funktion
One-troubling bassline that fully detonates this basement bomb. Don Arp
is going to tear up all sorts of dancefloors for a long time to come.
The dub version of 'Don Arp' puts a new slant on the same growling
groove, dispensing most of the vocals and letting the synths bubble and
the clattering hats and snares dominate.
Sharing the B side with the dub, comes 'Facebook'. Way more fun than
the social network, H.O.S.H drops another heavy-grooving body-mover.
Clocking in at 114bpm, the track hints at that slightly deranged part of
the night – a pitched down vocal, a neurotic melody and enough grit and
attitude to rock any flagging feet. Poker Flat’s incredible run of
recent releases goes on.

Your Mama's Friend 005

Having taken a trip to the UK for release number 004, Marcin
Czubala's Your Mama's Friend heads back to its native Poland, to catch
up with label regulars, Viadrina.
Konrad Slazyk and Mateusz Kazula are the fresh-faced pair hailing
from the banks of the River Odra. Having made a crushing impact with
their debut release, the 'Better EP' earlier this year on Pets
Recordings, Viadrina have been working away tirelessly in the studio
refining and polishing their sounds and skills. An endearing innocence
can be heard in their music and their versatile, warm and uplifting
style is immediately attractive to the ear. Matching that aural lure
with an impressive and mature use of 'bass' has seen them create some of
the smoothest and funkiest tracks of recent times.
Their "Shining" ep, the label's second release, is still one their
most popular to date. Today the duo unveil their latest work, "Popsong" /
"Tomorrow". The A side sees Viadrina dropping some 80's break-beats,
warm R&B vocals, wrapped in a warm layer of bass. On the remix are
another duo who are currently enjoying a blazing run of form off the
back of their recent ep on Exploited. The Adana Twins stay true to the
track title, upping the 'Pop' ante with their driving electro bassline.
On the flip "Tomorrow" drops its silky vocal, handclaps and gorgeous
synths before again being bedded by their subby bassline. Label chief
Marcin Czubala delivers his vision of "Tomorrow", brilliantly bringing
together some Motown'esque drums and percussion with modern uplifting
synth chords. Perfect for this summers outdoor parties.
OFF Recordings 032

Tracklisting: 01. Martinez - Approaching Dawn
02. Martinez - Octaves
Danish producer Martinez has always had a certain way with bass. His
debut Cadenza EP 'Mzuzu' in 2011 featured two cuts built around a
pulsating heart of bass, and here on his second Cadenza EP he plays with
the intoxicating frequency again, but this time it's dirtier, funkier
and housier.
If 'Mzuzu Chant' and 'Adagio' were fuel injected by bass,
'Approaching Dawn' and 'Octaves' are pure bass symphonies. The tracks
remind us that, whilst bass in its raw form can be an effective blunt
instrument for knocking a dancefloor senseless, when it is carefully
crafted into a melody, it becomes something more potent: it gets inside
your head. After all, if you want to shake the foundations of a club to
the ground, you might as well do it with style.
The first track 'Approaching Dawn' features loose house rhythms and
short samples on loop. The whole rhythm structure is free spirited, like
a smokey percussion outfit who don't mind dropping out of time
occasionally if it means they can sneak in another puff of ganja. When
the bass melody hits early on in the track, it doesn't let go, forever
rolling through its notes like a broken escalator that rises up four
steps before dropping you back down those same four steps. Yet despite
the repetition, its a ride you don't want to jump off.
With hi hat sprinkles and congo rattles providing added energy,
'Approaching Dawn' has a wild tribal feel at times, but its ground
shaking bassline gives it an urban rave vibe. It conjures up the memory
of a gritty London or Berlin warehouse rattling into the night. As the
track progresses, the bassline remains in tact, like a solid and
reliable clock, leaving the beats free to run undisciplined into a happy
mess.
The aptly titled second track 'Octaves' features a very low frequency
bass melody that acts as a musical counterpoint to some warm pad chords
that play an octave or two above, guiding the track elegantly like the
captain of ship propelled by his rowers below.
There's a lot of speed in the bass at times, yet there is little
aggression in its overall direction as the soft pads above wrap it in a
warm Detroit-esque blanket. There's a deep joy to be found amongst
Martinez' smart changes in pace and tone here. With its few simple
elements, 'Octaves' manages to construct an absorbing dancefloor story
that leave you on the edge of your seat.

Swiss born David Keno began his musical life learning classic
instruments such as the guitar and drums when he was 12. After playing
in various rock bands he discovered his love of electronic music. He
bought a drum machine and an old Korg synthesizer and started to
experiment.
Since then he has released with many high profile labels and even
got his own Keno Records label. This is David Keno's debut on the Noir
Music imprint and we are honoured at finally being able to add him to
the NM family.
Villains Is such a great effort from Mr. Keno. An instrumental that
just sucks you in with its addictive groove and superb bassline. This
track has been a secret weapon for Noir & David for quite some time
and both have reported amazing crowd reactions.
Daniel Dexter (Poker Flat, Off) has taken the oldschool route for
his remix. Immense 90s inspired beats, groove and hooks sucks you right
back to the underground garage sound of the late 90s and ensure some
proper summer action for the primetime sets.
Heroes is a laidback belter that crawls under your skin with the
soothing piano and vocal snippets. Whereas Villains is the darker one,
Heroes offers a proper loved up summer and sunshine feel. This track
grows from each listen and keeps putting a smile on your face.
Homework (Exploited, Made To Play) also chose the oldschool journey
with their remix. Another great remix by the Dutch duo that never seem
to fail to deliver. And once again the flashback's are coming from the
90s groovy underground house records with a crisp 2012 attitude.

Das Berliner Label Symbiostic veröffentlicht im Juni Affenstillstand Evolution von Wolfgang Lohr, auf dem Release befinden sich neben dem OriginalRemixe von Tinush, Oscar Berngruber und Matthias Kick.
Symbiostic 007

Fresh smell of croc and happy easter bell ing-a-ling are left directly
behind ourselves and a new EP of Symbiostic stands immediately in
front of the door. Based on the motto: If you want more, then play vinyl!
we present our first release in black gold.
The Original Mix from Wolfgang Lohr (Berlin / Symbiostic, Zuckerton
Records) starts immediately and a classical Tech House Crowd Pleaser
climbs directly into the ears. Produced for the club jungle, a walking
bassline presents itself accompanied by melodic vocal shots, diverse
stabs and a driving shuffle groove… the whole monkey-gang shouts!
A pinch of Deep House for chilly summer nights scatters Oscar Berngruber
(Lübeck / Gardenhouse) into the primate nation. A varied contrast
with full groove, organ stabs, trumpet licks and an interesting evolution
in the arrangement stand out fresh!
Matthias Kick (Munich / Beatwax) convinces with his remix of a very
danceable funky house version. The heavy bassline grooves through the
track and all elements are driven back deep into the jungle to an ostinato!
Tinush (Dortmund / Ton liebt Klang) finally entertain the last conspecifics
of the urban jungle. With surprising breaks, french touched accordion
melodies, clubby minimal groove and an unconventional arrangement
a real masterpiece of evolution got extracted from the coconut!
All in all a round EP, which lurches from vine to vine through the various
genres of electronic dance music and guarantees one: no monkeys
standstill!
